But I realized the other day that I have neglected "Goals Setting's" little brother: Forming Good Productive Habits. I've decided that I need to start forming better habits. Why form better habits? Because habits make your life easier, and if your life is easier, you can be more productive, and when you are more productive, you directly affect the money in your checking account (Remember, this website focuses on your wallet - not because it's the most important thing in life, but because, well, that's what I have chosen to focus on). When a habit is formed, you no longer have to whip up a whole bunch of effort to get that task done. It comes more naturally. For instance, I (and many other 5G members) am experimenting with getting less sleep (only 6.5 hours per night) in order to have more time during the day to get things done. If this ends up making me (us) more productive and still as healthy as ever, then I am going to try and develop it into a habit. Once it is a habit, it will not be as hard to wake up at 5:00 AM or even go to sleep at 10:30 PM. So what is the secret to developing a habit? Answer: The number 21. But it really depends on what type of habit you are trying to form. In others words, there are two main types of habits: Daily habits, and Weekly habits. If you are trying to form a daily habit, experts say that it takes 21 consecutive days of doing that particular task before it becomes a habit. If you are trying to form a weekly habit, it takes 147 days (21 consecutive weeks). So, the secret is the number 21. Doing something consecutively or consistently 21 times will increase your chances of forming a habit and keeping it. Saving a managing your time and money well takes a lot of discipline at times. But by forming good habits, you can make you life a little easier and increase your productivity by a ton! What habits are you trying to form? What has been your experience forming habits? As most of you know, I'm a huge fan of setting goals, writing them down where I can see them, and going after them with full force.
