There is an economic downward spiral taking place in America these days. Not that I needed to point that out to you - if you are over the age of six you have heard by now that these are "hard times" (as my grandpa might say). But have you stopped to think about how long these hard times will last? Have you thought about what it is going to take to stop the downward spiral of events?
Let's look at this economic downward spiral a little closer for a second. Dr. Paul White explains it in the following way as a cause and effect event (I stole this from his blog, but don't worry, I got permission first):
- People work and receive money for their services.
- When people don't have jobs, they don't make (as much) money.
- When people don't have as much money and don't see the opportunity for more money come in, they either don't spend as much, or spend on credit.

I watched a video today by a guy named Mark Hunter who calls himself "The Sales Hunter." He's kind of a silly and excitable dude if you ask me. But the subject of his 5 minute 13 second video intrigued me, so I watched.
He was talking about being set apart as a sales person and ultimately increasing your revenue. Now, some of you reading this may be thinking, "Well, I don't do any kind of sales so this stuff doesn't apply to me." And I will simply tell you that you are wrong. EVERYONE is in sales. I don't care what kind of job you have or don't have. If you do not have a small grasp of how to sell your service or product to a customer, or how to sell yourself to an employer, what chance do you have of earning a descent living and obtaining a piece of your financial freedom?

New Job New You; A Guide to Reinventing Yourself in a Bright New Career is a book written by Alexandra Levit. I recently read it in order to gain a better understanding of how employees think and what advice I can give them when they are looking for a new job. Having been self-employed since graduating college, I have a hard time putting myself in the shoes of those who work for someone else.
After reading the book I have mixed feelings. Most of the book was very useful and can be a great resource to turn to when looking for a new career. But I also had a few things that I did not like about the book. So, let's go ahead and get the negative things out of the way first.
First of all, every chapter has a 3 to 5 different success stories of people who have found the perfect career. Now, having real stories with real people to back up the information you are writing about is a great idea. I support that 100%. But 3 to 5 two-page stories for every single chapter was just too much and I found myself skimming (at best) and moving on to the meat of the information.

Let's face it, we all want to be effective in some way or another. We want to make a positive impact on those around us, succeed at the the things we attempt to do, and basically, live life to the fullest. If you don't, you're probably one of those people who plays computer games all day and complains about everyone else... which means that we're probably not friends... let me know when you are ready to put down the remote and then we can talk.
I have come to the belief that it's just plain silly to sit around and do nothing with the talents and abilities God has blessed us with. It would be like receiving a million dollars from some distance relative that I didn't know about and then doing absolutely nothing with it for the rest of my life (...hmmm, wonder where I got THAT analogy from?...). It's crazy! Invest it, give it to someone in need, send your kids to a great school, take your friends on vacation - Just do SOMETHING good with it!

As most of you know, I'm a huge fan of setting goals, writing them down where I can see them, and going after them with full force.
But I realized the other day that I have neglected "Goals Setting's" little brother: Forming Good Productive Habits.
I've decided that I need to start forming better habits. Why form better habits? Because habits make your life easier, and if your life is easier, you can be more productive, and when you are more productive, you directly affect the money in your checking account (Remember, this website focuses on your wallet - not because it's the most important thing in life, but because, well, that's what I have chosen to focus on).
